With over 30 years of experience as an architect, my proposed endeavor is to implement hurricane-resistant design in residential construction to mitigate damage caused by natural disasters in Florida. Current building codes and regulations, while intended to ensure the safety and integrity of residential structures, may not reflect recent advancements in building science or hurricane-resistant design.
Traditionally, wood has long been a preferred choice for construction due to its flexibility, thermal and acoustic benefits, and aesthetic appeal. However, wood is vulnerable to damage from natural disasters like hurricanes and fires due to its fragility. As a result, it is important to explore alternative construction materials and methods that offer greater resistance to these hazards.
